Interview with Paleo-Artist Li Hairo

Introducing our newest Paleo-Artist of the week!

Li Hairo!

First of all, I think it is safe to say that Li Hairo is a MAJOR Jurassic Park fan... If you couldn't tell lol. Li's style of prehistoric art is vastly different than the majority of Paleo-Artists I have featured. It is colorful, deep, bright, and for lack of a better word, just plain cool! Dinosaurs and Marine reptiles we all know from the movies. Dilophosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Mosasaurus, Tyrannosaurus, Stegosaurus, Pachycephalosaur, The Indoraptor and more!

What is most impressive about his work is that while it is obviously more of an Anime style, his animals are still for the most part biologically accurate. Which in reference to anime in general is usually not the case. So Li is able to combine a unique style while still keeping his animals realistic. And as you can see, a lot of his art is inspired by Jurassic Park and Jurassic World.

Take a minute to look closely as his skin tones, Li does an amazing job of mixing colors that would normally contrast, and blends them together for each animal. Giving the animal a personality. Not only emotionally but physically as well.

Most of Li's art is made up on the spot. A spontaneous creative process. But what It's what he told me that really got me to connect with his art even more.

"I’m an art student currently studying in California, my major is in Illustration as well as Design. Dinosaurs were (and very much still are) the love of my life ever since I was a kid, everything was about dinosaurs from movies I watched to books I read, my earliest memory that sparked this was being in the British national history museum in London seeing all the fossils and what I think was the famous diplodocus in the centre of a big hall, and me going home with some toy dinosaurs. I started drawing when I was really young, stealing my mom’s manila cardboard and markers, and you guessed it, drawing dinosaurs.

I do not have much of a creative process when I come to think of it. I pop open my software or a notebook and doodle away until I noticed i have been working on that doodle for hours, from sketching to lining to coloring."

Thank you Li Hairo for your hard work in creating these creatures for all of us to see.
