A Whale With T-Rex Size Teeth!!!

Brygmophyseter is an extinct toothed whale in the sperm whale family. Living around 15 million years ago. The name is a combination of the Greek word brygmos, which means "biting" or "gnashing". It was first found in Japan the world was quickly in shock to see a skull 5 feet long with T-Rex size teeth! Its total estimated size was around 40 feet long. Not as long as some modern day whales but 3 times as big and as deadly as an Orca.

The root of this whales teeth were angled back into the jaw, making them extremely sturdy and able to withstand extreme force and struggling prey.

This whale was huge and dangerous, but that did not mean that it could swim freely through the oceans of the world without any worries. This whale had the rotten luck of living at the same time as the largest shark the world has ever known, Megalodon! Brygmophyseter bones have been found missing entire flippers and show giant teeth marks along the tail and spine. It is clear that Megalodon hunted these whales. BUT! Scientists have also found some very interesting marks on Megalodon skulls as well.

It is thought that these large whales would have traveled in herds and together would have been able to attack and kill a Giant shark the same way as modern day dolphins to today. Ramming the shark in the sides and also able to bite and take out giant chunks of flesh. Most scientists believe that this whale was able to use low frequency sound waves (Sonar) to detect and track where a predator or prey is located. The front sound chambers of this whale were so advanced that it is possible that these animals were able to produce a sound wave so concentrated that it could actually cause internal damage. Like the shock wave from a grenade!

It is most likely that the Megalodon would have prevailed of the whales or often then not but one thing is for sure, this giant toothed prehistoric ocean killer could very well have had a Megalodon for dinner if it played its cards right.

The Brygmophyseter went extinct around 11 million years ago. But something even bigger came along to take its place to hunt the Megalodons.

The Livyatan!

Researchers originally assigned the English name of the biblical monster, Leviathan, to this prehistoric whale as Leviathan melvillei, dedicating the discovery to Herman Melville, author of Moby-Dick.

This sperm whale had teeth just as large as the Brygmoph but was twice the size! Estimated up to 65 feet long and much more maneuverable than the giant shark from hell. Scientists belive that the showdown between these two ocean killers would have been a battle of unimaginable killer power.
